UV purification systems

NOKA AS pioneered the use of UV radiation in Norway and our first plant was delivered as early as 1974. Three years later, in 1977, we delivered what was - with its 1,000 m³/hr capacity - the world's largest UV drinking water purification plant. Over 30 years later, the plant is still in operation.

Since we started business in 1974, we have delivered over 1,300 UV systems all over Norway to purify water for drinking, aquaculture and industry.

UV radiation treatment of drinking water is today viewed as the most effective method of inactivating Cryptosporidium and Giardia, pathogens that are unfortunately present in Norwegian raw water sources. UV light renders the pathogenic microbes harmless and unable to reproduce. Disinfection is best achieved using UV-C at a wavelength of 254 nanometres.

UV systems can range from small-scale installations, suitable for holiday cabins and households, right up to purification plants used at the world's largest water works. Our partner company TROJAN is now engaged in delivering a UV plant to New York City in the United States. Back in Norway we have now delivered and put into operation a UV plant for IVAR IKS. This is one of Norway's largest UV plants for purifying drinking water.

In order to supply a UV unit of the correct dimensions, it is important to possess data concerning the water to be treated, especially regarding its colour level and capacity to transmit UV radiation. Once we are in possession of this data, and know the quantity of water to be treated, it is a straightforward matter for us to supply units suitable for all requirements. TROJAN UV units are type approved by the Norwegian Institute for Public Health and have undergone third-party testing and validation. This is so that our customers, as well as ourselves, can be fully assured that the equipment supplied is in accordance with Norwegian standards for drinking water.

Please contact us for further information or for a non-binding quote for a UV unit tailored to your requirements.
